Ida Bäckmann's place
Åmål
Growing up in Åmål, the family lived during her first nine years in one of the houses around Fisketorget. Then the father bought a property in the block of Lejonet, where he also had his painting workshop. She lived in Åmål until she was 23 years old.
Ida Bäckmann was a female pioneer as a foreign reporter and reported both to Dagens Nyheter and Stockholm Dagblad. She was criticized and hated for her book about poet Gustaf Fröding, but with Sigrid Combüchen's book "Den umbärliga" ("The Expendable One") in 2014, Ida Bäckmann got her reputation rehabilitated. She was encouraged by Selma Lagerlöf to write about her upbringing. The books about the girl Röpecka describe the upbringing with play and mischief around the Åmål river.
Ida Bäckmann's place was inaugurated on June 5, 2019.
